Eggita

One evening of boredom,
and some colours lying around.
Suddenly an idea does come,
in a flash of light and brilliant sound!
One oval blob of yolk,
floating in a white expanse.
I drew on it, oh crazy folks,
and made it do a little dance!

Promotional video made for Industrial Design during Monsoon Fiesta. Inspired by the Soviet struggle led by Lenin and Stalin. Animations clips that make the video are an extension of powerful posters of amazing graphical quality. A variety of techniques of representation put into use, with remarkable attention to detail. Moreover Every poster is a historical reference of events, opinions, dreams that took place at that time which with the aid of powerful graphic design is carried through time.

The sketch is a random expression on one of the mess tables.

Took a break from designing light fixtures and came up with this on harikrishnan's desk while listening to his trippy music. Its true that listening to music while drawing really carries you off to another world.
We were planning that evenings party and looking up on the net for cocktail recipes. Sadly we dint have much choice considering the only liquor available that day was whiskey! and Whiskey always reminds me of parties old people have which starts off formally but ends up with everyone getting drunk and making fools out of themselves.

Illustration Friday: adapt

Industrial Design is largely about visualizing and creating beautiful, aesthetic forms. Every industrial designer has his/her own technique of doing so, some sketch, sketch and sketch some more until they finally achieve the design that couldn't be more perfect, some on the other hand turn towards design Gurus or nature to derive brilliant forms.
Harikrishnan, a batch-mate and a good friend who is interning with me follows his own system. He peacefully adapts to highly boring office conditions by falling asleep and hoping to get the next big design during the sessions of sleep.

pencil carving

Carved this on a pencil for one of my closest friends during my junior college.
Each word is connected to the next with exposed graphite and a connecting patch of wood beneath that graphite to prevent the graphite from breaking.

illustration friday: contagious

This is my sanskrit teacher at school a long time ago when i was  a primary school student who had one big problem, she yawned all day. She shamelessly yawned during the morning prayer, through lunch and while teaching in class, she probably yawned while she was asleep too. That contagious yawn of hers kept us all yawning all day.  This is how she probably looked when she often turned away from us towards the blackboard to hide herself as she yawned.

lambretta

Tribute to D'Ascanio, aeronautical engineer who designed the 1st production helicopter for Agusta also came up with the initial designs of a scooter, revolutionary handlebar gear change, engine above the rear wheel, "shield" to keep rider dry, a simple and robust design that's nothing short of genius.

Model made entirely of paper. 18 centimeters long, stands on a cardboard base. individual parts glued together at the end to make the scooter. Design inspired by lambretta designs. To be repainted due to its faded worn out look. better pics of the repainted one will replace this.

You can try guessing.

chalk

"It is a form of limestone mainly composed of mineral calcite" my high school chemistry teacher said showing us the half used chalk she was writing with. i picked up another half used chalk that was constantly thrown around at other students when the teacher turned her back to write on the blackboard, i examined its smooth surface on the sides, the rough surface at the ends where it had been broken.i intuitively picked up a papercutter and began carving, i imagined a million tiny particles being tightly squeezed together to form a firm yet was brittle structure, just perfect to carve and shape into anything i wanted. by the end of the class a smooth form had emerged. i dont remember what i had made but i remember the process like it happened yesterday. i used cutters to carve until i was gifted a wonderful carving set by one of my friends. i moved on to soft wood on pencils to even harder wood but chalk or pop still have its nice smooth easy feeling.

i carved this on a piece of chalk i found at my product design studio. sadly it now lies broken in one of my friends lockers.

2X cyborg

My 1st illustration with copic markers, these magical pens create an unexpectedly delightful with half the time and effort when compared to pencil colors, the greys are a charm but the colors are still tricky to use.
